COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS in trying times….
Sometimes this author has a difficult time knowing what to convey to our supporters. You all follow what is going on in Haiti and are well aware of the dire situation in that country, with so much political upheaval, violence in the streets, kidnappings (and even murders) of people working with NGO’s, mass starvation and so much more. And yes, even in our little enclave at the Feed My Lambs Ministry Orphanage and Academy we have experienced vandalism and attacks from time to time. Thanks to the amazing work that continues in that facility by such dedicated and caring staff and educators, we have enthusiastic supporters in the surrounding villages who are grateful for the sewing facilities, the dental and medical clinic that operates on FMLM premises and the education and lunch programme that continues for up to 1,000 students (other schools in the area have closed so our numbers have greatly increased). Local villagers admonished the frustrated and angry young men who caused damage. Contrite, they returned to help repair the plumbing they had damaged and put things right again. They are now ardent supporters and protectors!
During such times of unrest, it is challenging to get food and supplies to our facility. However Phillip has managed to get a few containers of food and supplies to the area – ask him to tell you the stories if you ever see him! Click on this link to Phillip’s facebook page, where he often posts photos our staff have sent from Haiti.
We have been fortunate to continue to fund the orphanage/school. FMLM Facebook Page has many photos of food drives and more – our supporters have been amazing and are a huge blessing! That said, it’s important for you to know that the prices for the food we need – rice and beans mostly – are now double what they were a few short years ago! As a result, we have raised the cost of student sponsorship to $300/year. Here is a photo of our garden – we supplement the staples as much as we can!!
This year we will reach out to our sponsors again for their annual sponsorhip fee of $300 in September. Additionally, we will ask that each sponsor try to recruit another sponsor. We would like to double the number so that we can meet the needs of the increasing number of children we nourish, shelter and educate there. Please have them contact dianabermuda@icloud.com for student sponsorship information. We need your help more than ever, so donations of any amount in addition to the sponsorship funds are very much appreciated.
Phillip plans to visit Haiti again soon, although it is still too dangerous to offer a mission trip for others. Below are some photos — one of sewing class students modelling recent creations, children enjoying lunch and Dr. Kasanthia Pierre, who started at our orphanage/school some 15 years ago! We are so proud of Dr. Pierre!
Please keep Haiti in your hearts and minds and prayers, and share our good news with others who might be able to assist. Click HERE for info on how to donate, wherever you are.
